This decadently, delicious fruit dip was made popular by a once dear friend's daughter, who used to make it for all our little gatherings - backyard barbecues, birthday parties, mother's day get togethers and other fun times. I took the recipe from them and started making it at my house parties. The daughters of another dear friend, who I fondly think of as my sister in Canada, fell in love with this dip and took the recipe to their homes in the UK and the US.
The recipe is originally from Paula Deen Paula Deen French Cream Fruit Dip My version is slightly different but it is Paula Deen's recipe.
It is a very rich dish and I recommend making it exactly like the recipe says. Do not tweak quantities in a vain attempt to make it healthy. Enjoy this awesome dip, and work some extra exercises into your schedule to burn off those mouthwatering, divine calories.
Ingredients
Whipping Cream - 1 cup (Find the highest percentage cream. I used 35% for this recipe)
Chopped Pecans - 1/2 cup
Icing sugar - 1/2 cup
Cream Cheese - One 8 oz package (I used Philadelphia cream cheese)
Lemon Juice - 2 tbsp
In a large bowl, whip cream with pecans and icing sugar (NOT stiff). Add pieces of cream cheese and whip until smooth and well blended. Whip in lemon juice. If you're short on time, put all the ingredients except the lemon juice together in a bowl and whip till smooth with a hand held whisk. Lastly, add the lemon juice and whip it in. Serve chilled as a dip with a luxurious fruit platter.
Sadly, the person who made this recipe popular, is no longer a part of my life. This fruit dip is so very sweet, the friendship - soured by negative reactions, spiralled out of control and went bitter. But such is life. I am left with pleasant memories of a friendship that was, and an awesome fruit dip recipe that will live forever, untainted by the discord of friends who are no longer friends.
